Well, it was a swift cosmic kick in the pants. Soul Shed began in response to the loss of our dear friends Larry Romberg and Pableaux Johnson, who each passed away, suddenly and unexpectedly, literally days apart in January, 2025.
Over the years, we would wrap up a magical evening spent together playing music, making a meal, or a general hang, with the same familiar refrain: “We need to get together more often.”
Yet you know the drill. Good intentions and vague plans rarely lead to the ever-distant horizon of someday. Family demands inevitably call, life does life, and days turn to weeks and weeks turn to months, and so on.
After losing Larry and Paul, it became clear: Why leave this to chance? Instead of hoping we’ll make time, we can decide to create time. We can actively and purposely set firm plans tied to real connection.
So here we are. Soul Shed is our way of staying connected, engaged, and curious about what’s next. No more “we should” or “someday.” This is about showing up for ourselves, for each other, for community, and for whatever comes next.
We’re a group of longtime friends and new faces, guys who’ve shared laughs, deep conversations, and the occasional "we really should do this more often." Here are a few of our original members (iIlustrations by Sir Lawrence Romberg).
